Magdalena Karpińska has created a mural at 99 Pańska St. in Warsaw!
The artwork references the history of the site and its neighboring House of the Polish Word (pl. Dom Słowa Polskiego), home to a renowned printing works where publications such as “Trybuna Ludu,” “Kurier Polski,” “Sztandar Młodych,” “Gazeta Wyborcza,” and copies of the Constitution of the Republic of Poland distributed to households across the country were printed.
Karpińska’s mural combines a botanical composition with the motif of scattered sheets of paper. Her painting—created using traditional egg tempera made from dry pigments prepared by the artist herself—was faithfully reproduced across more than 300 sqm of wall surface, using a color palette inspired by the columns and structural elements of the former printing facility.
While developing the concept, the artist worked in dialogue with the landscape architects of Landscape Practice, who designed the surrounding greenery.
The project was made possible through the collaboration of the Towarowa22 developers, AFI and Echo Investment, with the Wola District Office, the owner of the building, and was carried out under the supervision of Michał Szczęsny.
